Soup Kitchen
CURRENT NEWS
Many thanks to all who made our March 1st soup kitchen such a great success!! We all worked diligently to get the required tasks completed. We served more than 200 clients. As well, many found this to be a great opportunity to socialize with friends and meet newcomers to the OBS.
As with most other group activities, the soup kitchen group program has been suspended until government restrictions are lifted. The soup kitchen is now only serving take-out meals and they have replaced the group volunteers with five regular ones. We missed our shift on June 21st and the next one is scheduled to take place on Oct. 25th. I will be certain to contact previous volunteers and place notifications via email and the OBS newsletter as soon as we find out the status of the program.
Below is the news from just after the March 1st event; it will be applicable again once we start up the program once more.
We have now completed 22 soup kitchen shifts at the Shepherds of Good Hope. It has become a very popular activity and the volunteer list has been filling up quickly over the last few times. Please respond early to ensure a spot; the maximum number we can take is 20. Extra volunteers can always be used for the preparation. However we can only use 18-20 for the serving and cleaning portion of the shift. Extra volunteers can help out doing other activities for the mission such as organizing the food cupboard or helping staff move materials around. They also have the option of going home early.
This community event welcomes volunteer members and friends who wish to donate their time and food preparation skills. The OBS helps prepare and serve the Sunday lunch time meal to clients at the Shepherds from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. Please contact Ann Waters socserv2014@ottawabuddhistsociety.com

GENERAL INFORMATION:
The meal service at the Shepherds of Good Hope enables us to contribute to the community at large and socialize at the same time. About three times per year a group from the OBS helps prepare and serve lunch at Shepherds while we catch-up with each other.
The Shepherds of Good Hope is located at 233 Murray St. in Lowertown at the corner with King Edward Ave. The shift runs from 8:30 am to 1 pm. We start by cutting veggies and preparing sandwiches. At 11:00 we are served lunch after which we serve the clients and do the clean-up.
